EXECUTIVE SUMMARY     In addition to operating from water and paved runways, the VenTure can takeoff and land on hard soil airstrips, maximizing the number of possible landing sites.  The conventional tricycle landing gear configuration (Figure 13) puts the center of gravity (CG) ahead of the main wheels for added stability on the ground.  This configuration places the cabin floor in a horizontal plane improving visibility over the nose of the aircraft, increasing passenger mobility, and facilitating cargo loading.  Retractable gear decrease aircraft drag and permit water landings.  Located in watertight wheel wells in the sponsons, the gear may be deployed for taxi from the water onto land.  The struts of the main gear are constructed of thermoplastic carbon fiber for high strength, low cost, and excellent corrosion resistance.  For further information on the landing gear, see Appendix L.
