Canard-Rotor Wing Concepts

from the Virginia Tech Aircraft Design Information Sources pages

John W. Rutherford, S.M. Bass and S.D. Larsen, “Canard Rotor/Wing: A Revolutionary High-Speed Rotorcraft Concept,” AIAA 93-1175, Feb. 1993. This is possibly an important new concept. It is being developed for unmanned applications first, and will be considered for manned applications if it works.

Robert Wall, “Darpa, Boeing Eye Stopped-Rotor Vehicle,” Av. Wk. & Space Tech., April 6, 1998, pp. 70-71. Indeed it appears that the concept has continued to generate interest and might become real.

Ramon Lopez, “X-50 Dragonfly poised for takeoff”, Aerospace America, April 2002, pp. 30-34. This concept is slowly but surely making its way to flight.
